GSAI Media Training
In view of promoting media independence and quality gender reportage, a two day capacity building workshop for 20 Journalists and Editors from radio, print, TV and digital media was organized by GSAI on the 23rd and 24th July 2022. The theme of the training was tagged: “Capacity Building Workshop for Reporters and Editors on Media Independence to Promote Women’s Economic Inclusion and Gender Accountability in Governance”.
The training focused on collaborative media engagement for development, inclusion and accountability and how the media and civil society organizations (CSO) can sufficiently project gender inclusion in their reportage and dealings to prod policymakers, the legislatures and other government parastatals to act accordingly by bridging the gap and creating a gender inclusive society.
At the event, Journalists and Editors were tasked with developing story projects around issues affecting women from representation in politics and governance, financial inclusion of women and Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) while narrowing their lenses on projects meant to be executed by ministries departments and agencies to track impacts, successes and failures. There was also an emphasy on the need to focus on government performance at the sub-national level.
The event organized by GSAI was supported by Macarthur foundation in partnership with Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ).
